DDK Kings and the “Just for Fun Game that Turned Out to be More”
It was one of the hottest days in 2015 and even the Ump was questioning why the game was not called. Despite the temperature, the Kings and Return Path met for the last game of the season. There was no race for the playoffs. It was all meant to be in good fun.
So, sit down, don’t drink any hot liquids and enjoy the moments de shock as I recount the event of “DDK Kings and the Just for Fun Game that Turned Out to be More.”
Right away, the Kings started the game off with Raj hitting a single, followed by Evan’s double and Matt’s single, bringing Raj and Evan home and giving the King’s a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the 1st.
The lead continued into the top of the 2nd inning, when Haren hit a single! Your featured writer hit a single! And then Raj hit a homerun(!!) sending all three of us home, giving the Kings a 5-0 lead.
Once again, the Kings held the lead into the top of the 3rd inning. Matt, Mike Blum, Albert and Evan each had runs scored, bringing the lead to 9-0. And another 3 in the top of the 4th from Raj, Evan and Matt, to give the Kings a 12-0 lead. The Kings could taste the mercy win.
But Return Path rallied in the bottom on the 4th inning, getting 2 runs, and then another run in the bottom of the 5th. The teams were playing a full game.
In the top of the 6th, Raj, Ed (finally), Evan and Blum each added a run to bring the lead up to 16-3. But Return Path wasn’t backing down, adding 4 more runs in the bottom of the 6th.
With the score 16-7, the Kings went into the bottom of the 7th tasting victory, but knowing Return Path still had some juice left to their fight. In a surprise move, Evan took the bench and Haren stepped in to play 3rd base. Return Path took the plate. Hit after hit right down the line to Haren, and each time, Haren caught the ball (!!), ending the game with a win (!!) and a final score of 16-9.
